CRY HAVOC's central mission is the structured development of new plays and new approaches to existing plays. Every project that we bring to the public begins life as an undertaking initiated by members of our artistic community designed to challenge the boundaries of their talent and technique. Projects currently under development in the CRY HAVOC Workshop and the CRY HAVOC Lab include:
Bake Sale – a new one-act play by Jennifer Reichert. An exploration of the economics of female sexuality and the choices women make in concert and as individuals—with baked goods. Based on a series of scientific articles. Roles being developed for the female members of the Company. Bank & Trust by Kitt Lavoie – An actor-driven exploration of the role that gender plays in the relationship of the two characters – with an actor and actress rehearsing the play first as written, then swapping roles. Additional actors may be added to rehearse the play as encounters between two men and two women. With Peter J. Crosby and Kerry Flanagan. Blackbirds – a full-length play by Timothy Davis. What is a thirty-something middle school history teacher to do when he realizes he is no longer twenty-one? Soundproof the garage, cross his fingers...and rock. Roles being developed for Resident Artists Chris Comfort, Kerry Flanagan, William Jackson Harper, and Chris Stack.
Caught – a new full-length play by Sharon E. Cooper. What happens when three old friends, lost in lies and secrets, find their betrayals unraveling in front of them and leave them feeling caught? Henry V by William Shakespeare – An exploration of ways to stage epic plays with a limited number of actors, limited space, and limited design capabilities – using Shakespeare's Henry V as a model. Internicina – a new 10-minute play by Timothy Davis. An explosive situation of the political becoming personal, as two friends find themselves at opposite ends of an intractable socio-political issue.
Missionary Dating – a new one-act play by Jennifer Reichert. A Southern Baptist teenager and a young Mormon missionary meet at a South American beach snack bar. Spiritual warfare ensues.
Iowa – a new screenplay by Timothy Davis. The story of a man released from prison who returns to his hometown to find that making your future is hard when you can't ever forgive your past. Current draft a semi-finalist for the Page International Screenwriting Award. Mikey Wears Braces by Jennifer Reichert – An exploration of the ways that the choice of theme for a production (i.e., what the artists decide the play is primarily "about") affects the process and product by rehearsing the play in five stages – each stage focused on a different theme inherent in the text. With Timothy Davis and Sarah Curtis.
Revelations – a new one-act play by Peter J. Crosby. A Times Square hotel room is the setting for a transformative night for a man, his boss, and a young male escort, and what happens when Truth careens out of control. Special Day – a new screenplay by Jennifer Reichert. A lovely bride, a peaceful pier, a stunning dress – and a pissed off best friend who wants it back. Roles being developed for Resident Artists Kerry Flanagan and Jenny Kirlin.

realer than that by Kitt Lavoie – An exploration of the role that the audience's physical relationship to the action affects the way a play is received, with the play staged several ways with the same actors - for a proscenium space, a thrust space, an alley space, and "in the round." With Josh Bywater and Aubyn Philabaum.

Spilling the Salt – a new one-act play by Derrick DeMaria. A short play examining the gentrification in North Harlem through the lens of a drug exchange. Sunshine – a new one-act play by Kitt Lavoie. After waking up next to each other for the first time in two years, Grace and Davey have to decide if they ever want to wake up next to each other again. Roles being developed for Resident Artists Jennifer Curfman and Chris Stack. Techs – a new full-length play by Jennifer Reichert. Young scientists, fresh out of undergrad, deal with the reality of working in a "science factory" laboratory. Having leapt from the cliffs of academia towards the ocean of the real world, they must each learn to swim… or to fly.
Thirty Four Weeks and Four Days – a new one-act play by Kitt Lavoie. When a mother walks in on her step-daughter – and the boy she snuck into her room – their already strained relationship reaches a breaking point, and they must confront how they will make it the eight months left until graduation. TSA – a new full-length play by Nicole Johnston. A man with a dark secret falls in love with a woman at the airport. As they fall for each other, he is forced to face reality and choose between a life of lies or a new beginning. *a truly marvelous proof – a new full-length musical by Kitt Lavoie. Advanced mathematics, world-class art, human molecular genetics, the five-four-three double play – and four generations of fathers and sons.
Untitled Animated Pigeon Screenplay – by Jenny Kirlin. A plump city pigeon ventures out of the safety of his Museum of Natural History home to find adventure involving pirates, pizza crusts, and the most beautiful dove in the world. Veep – a new full-length play by Kitt Lavoie. A Republican governor credited with thwarting a terrorist attack at the end of primary season is courted by the Democratic party to run for Vice President. The story of competing loyalties – to party, to country, to family, and to his own ambition to do right by all of them. Roles being developed for Resident Artists Josh Bywater and Chris Stack. A Writer For Children – a new full-length play by Kitt Lavoie. The story of two lonely people who meet while on a short stint in Baltimore – and the havoc that is unleashed after they negotiate a price. Roles being developed for Resident Artists Timothy Davis and Chris Stack.
