Kitt Lavoie has directed more than eighty shows in New York City, including the original productions of more than thirty plays. With CRY HAVOC, he has directed productions of Romeo & Juliet, The Median Line, realer than that, Good Enough, Macbeth, Yukon Brass, Kat for Short, Bad Girls, Then…, and Tegwar, many of which were developed with the CRY HAVOC Workshop, where Kitt has overseen the development of over one hundred new plays. Kitt is the author of twenty-one produced plays and musical books that have been staged in over thirty-five different productions in New York and elsewhere. Plays include: Twice Rather Perish, The Median Line (both winners of the Herbert J. Robinson Award for Dramatic Writing), realer than that (published by Samuel French, Inc; winner, 2009 Samuel French New Play Festival), [pwnd] (2009 NYIT Award Nominee, Best Original Short Script), and the widely produced Good Enough, Party Girl, and Not Entirely Platonic: Variations on a Confession. Also a filmmaker, Kitt wrote and directed Rainbow Rabbit Reliant (LeosPlayground Productions) and is currently working on a pair of theater-related documentaries. Kitt also works regularly as an associate to director Lonny Price, with whom he has recently worked on the Roundabout Theatre’s Broadway Tony-nominated revival of 110 in the Shade (starring Audra McDonald), the Emmy-nominated PBS Great Performances production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company, the New York Philharmonic staging of Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot (starring Gabriel Byrne), and the film adaptation of Athol Fugard’s play “Master Harold”… and the boys starring Freddie Highmore and Ving Rhames, which shot on location in Cape Town, South Africa. Also an actor, Kitt has appeared on the CRY HAVOC stage as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, John in Knowing Her, and Philip in the original production of Party Girl. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the Actors Studio Drama School and is a Founding Member of the Professional Playwrights Workshop at The Players.
